Uganda Premier League (UPL) reigning champions Express FC have announced the departure of goalkeeper Mathias Muwanga after the custodian refused any new offers from the club.

“Express FC inform that, as per Goalkeeper Mathias Muwanga’s wishes and at his request, the club and the player have mutually parted ways after contract renewal negotiations fell through,” the club said via its website.

“Express FC would like to place on record its thanks to a player who has shown his 100% committment and made his mark during one of the best seasons in our club’s history,” the club added.

Muwanga, 23 leaves the Wankulukuku based side after three seasons, he joined the club in the 2018/2019 season managing 54 club appearances and 24 clean sheets across all competitions.

Apart from the Uganda Premier League title he lifted at the end of last season (the club’s 7th in the club’s history), Muwanga also won the Golden Glove award for keeping the most clean sheets (13).

Reports have so far linked Muwanga to Congolese side AS Vita.

Express is reportedly scouting Kyetume FC goalie Joel Mutakubwa as Muwanga’s replacement.
