The 2022 Kenya Day Golf Tournament slated for Saturday, 10th December at Uganda Golf Club’s (UGC) par-72 course in Kitante, Kampala will be the key event to celebrate this year’s Jamhuri Day (Kenya Independence Day).

The Kenya Week 2022, a series of activities culminating into the Jamhuri Day reception started a few days ago and the Kenya Day Golf Tournament will be the third activity before the Independence Day itself, celebrated annually on 12th December.

During the tournament press launch on Thursday, Uganda Golf Club Captain Emmanuel Wamala said that they have been privileged to be hosting the event for a while now and they thank the Kenya High Commission for always choosing them.

“This year’s Kenya Day Golf Tournament is unique because there will be new categories introduced. We shall have pros play on Friday and the main event will be on Saturday. We shall have juniors, amateurs, ladies, men, seniors, military and diplomats all playing in the main event,” Wamala said.

“A tree planting activity will also be happening on Saturday and Uganda Tree Initiative has already set aside trees for that exercise,” Wamala added.

Kenya High Commissioner to Uganda Maj. Gen. George Owino says that they are happy that Uganda Golf Club has always been hosting them adding the Kenya High Commission is a corporate member of the club and it’s only right that they are hosting them.

“I want to thank the sponsors for their support for this year’s event and even in the past,” Maj. Gen. Owino said adding that; “we hold this tournament so that we have a space for interaction with many people including Kenyans living in Uganda, native Uganda and others.”

Maj. Gen. Owino studies the greens during the ceremonial putting at the launch of the Kenya Day Golf Tournament on Thursday.

“This will be the third activity we will be holding ahead of Kenya Independence Day. On 3rd December we had Diaspora Day and recently we had a CSR activity where we interacted with the less preveileged. We gave away 26 wheelchairs that day,” he added.

On Saturday, golfers from the Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) will be playing together with their Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) counterparts and they will get to know each other.

Through the tournament, the Kenya High Commission intends to reach out to their stakeholders as well as the corporate world.

They are also cautious of the environment that’s why they target to plant 1 million trees adding that they are grateful to the club for giving them space to plant trees.
