Grassroots to glory: FUFA TV Cup propels Jimmy Lagoro to Express FC
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

In a remarkable tale of determination and talent, Lagoro Jimmy, a young footballer from Kitgum, Northern Uganda, has officially joined Uganda Premier League side Express FC.

Lagoro’s football journey began in Kitgum and flourished at King’s College Budo, an institution renowned for balancing academics and sports.

At Budo, Lagoro not only excelled in his studies, completing Senior 4 in 2024, but also stood out as a dynamic winger on the football field.

FUFA TV Cup: A gateway to greatness

Lagoro’s breakthrough came through the FUFA TV Cup, an initiative by the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) that has been instrumental in discovering Uganda’s football talent.

The 2024 tournament featured fierce competition, culminating in Nabumali High School’s victory over Nganwa High School.

These tournaments serve as a bridge, connecting grassroots talent to professional opportunities, with scouts from top clubs keeping a keen eye on emerging stars.

Lagoro’s exceptional performance in the FUFA TV Cup captured the attention of Express FC scouts, securing him a spot on the team.

Express FC, known for its commitment to nurturing young talent, has been actively strengthening its squad for the 2024/2025 season, alongside improving their stadium to enhance the fan experience.

An inspiration for Uganda’s youth

Lagoro’s journey from Kitgum to the national football stage is a source of inspiration for aspiring athletes across Uganda.

His story shows the importance of initiatives like the FUFA TV Cup and the critical role of schools in fostering talent both academically and athletically.

Express FC’s focus on young players like Lagoro reflects their vision to build a competitive and dynamic team for future success.
