Uganda Premier League side Lugazi FC have announced that midfielder Abdul Kalanzi has committed his future to the club by signing a five-year contract extension, keeping him with the Leaders until 2031.

Kalanzi, a versatile and dynamic attacking midfielder, first joined Lugazi FC in 2021, making an immediate impact by helping the club secure promotion to the FUFA Big League.

After a stint with CATDA FC, he returned to Lugazi FC in September 2023, further solidifying his role as a key player.

Last season, Kalanzi made 20 appearances in the second tier, contributing two goals and seven assists, instrumental in the club’s promotion to the Uganda Premier League.

This season, he has already notched three goals and four assists in just nine games across all competitions, showcasing his growing influence in the top flight.

Speaking to the club website about his contract extension, Kalanzi expressed his enthusiasm for the future with the club:

“I have had some fantastic time at Lugazi FC and I’m delighted to extend my stay here. Gaining promotion to the topflight last season was extremely special, and it’s even more exciting to play in the Uganda Premier League with this team. I love the coaches, my teammates, and the fans, and I hope we can share even more great memories in the coming years.”

Head coach Steven Bogere hailed Kalanzi as the “beating heart” of the team, emphasizing his ability to adapt to various roles and his selfless dedication to the club’s success. Whether playing centrally, out wide, or in attack, Kalanzi has consistently delivered when it matters most.

Fans will fondly remember his stunning equalizer against SC Villa and the mesmerizing free kick against BUL FC, moments that underline his technical brilliance and match-winning potential.

Kalanzi’s extension is a testament to Lugazi FC’s vision of retaining top talent as they solidify their place in the Uganda Premier League and aim for continental competitions.

With a rich history dating back to their founding as Kampala University FC in 2010, the club remains committed to its core values of integrity, innovation, and teamwork.
