Guinness 7s: Rams shift focus to Western Circuit

After struggling in the fourth circuit of the Guinness 7s also dubbed Rujumba 7s held over the weekend at Kings Park, Bweyogerere, Rams have shifted their focus to the fifth circuit of the series slated for Saturday, 13th November 2021 at Kabale Stadium.

In the Central Circuit, Rams only picked one win in Group A after beating their development side Rams 2 17-00 in their final game of the day. Earlier they lost 17-00 and 33-10 to Jinja Hippos and Kobs respectively.

Rams will be hosting the Kabale showpiece also dubbed the Western Circuit and their Coach Richard Lumu says that his charges will put in a good shift and possibly get out of the group stage.

“Our target now is to put up a good fight in Kabale next weekend. We really struggled today but I believe we shall post good results next time,” Lumu said after the opening day of the two-day circuit on Saturday.

After an unpleasing outing on Saturday, Rams and their development side had to compete in the Challenge Cup on Sunday but their senior side lost to Mongers in the final.

However, Rams are no strangers to high altitude rugby having held tournaments in Kabale (Kigezi 7s) in the recent past hence it’s unlikely that they will struggle a lot under the conditions of the area.

After the Kabale event, the series will be capped at Legends Grounds in Kampala with another Central Circuit that will be hosted by Beyond Sports Organisation (BSO).

However, the fourth circuit of the series was won by Stanbic Black Pirates after beating Heathens 21-19 in the final. It was their first circuit victory in three attempts.

Guinness 7s schedule.
*1st Leg : 2nd & 3rd October. Warriors/Legends (Central Circuit). Winners: Kobs
*2nd Leg: 9th October. Gulu Elephants/Gulu grounds (Northern Circuit). Winners: Kobs
