Guinness 7s – 2021

1st Leg (Mileke 7s) : 2nd & 3rd October @Legends

Rugby legends, both living and dead will be honored in the opening circuit of the 2021 National Rugby Sevens Series (Guinness 7s) dubbed Mileke 7s set to be played on 2nd & 3rd October at Legends Grounds in Kampala.

Emmanuel Fudribo who is in charge of the Mileke 7s revealed that this year they will recognize both the living and deceased legends of the game.

“In the Rugby fraternity, we have Families, Individuals and Corporates who have in one way or another played a role in the growth and development of the game that we all love. For some, we may not have been fortunate   to have been present during their time but their legacy lives among us, but for those still with us, we see the impact of their involvement in the game every day,” Fudribo said.

The individuals to be honored include; The Late Henry Rujumba, The Late Edward Kitaka, Seguya Robert, Helen Koyokoyo Buteme, The Mudoolas (Fred, Timothy and Charlotte Theresa Mudoola) Allan Musoke and others.

In the 1st edition, the Tournament celebrated Deborah Mileke and the now departed Patrick Mileke who have been instrumental in the development of Warriors RFC (Mileke 7s hosts) but whose impact has also been felt and continues to be felt across the entire rugby fraternity.

In this 2nd Edition of the Mileke 7s, dubbed “Legends live among us,” the organizers have expanded the scope to honor the memory of our rugby legends who have gone ahead of us and recognizing those still among us, who have made and continue to make an immense contribution to the development and the growth of rugby in Uganda. The list of gentlemen and ladies who have led from the front not only on the turf but also off it is endless.

Mileke 7s started in 2019 and it’s played in honor of rugby parents Patrick and Deborah Mileke who are parents to rugby playing trio of Joseph, Gabriel and Erasmus Aredo. Unfortunately Mr. Patrick Mileke passed away months after the inaugural edition.

This year’s 7s Series was officially launched on Thursday, 30th September by its sponsor, Guinness Uganda, Uganda Rugby Union and organizers.
