Uganda Rugby Union (URU) has postponed the season finale of the Guinness 7s that was initially slated for the weekend of 20th and 21st November at Legends Grounds in Kampala.

The postponement is because of the delicate security situation in the country as evidenced in the twin bombings in Kampala that happened on Tuesday, 16th November 2021.

Also dubbed the Coronation Sevens, the season finale of the series has been postponed by one week and will instead be held in the weekend of 27 – 28 November.

“Under the current circumstances, we feel it best to get our security protocols reinforced and ready for the grand finale of this exciting series. Teams’ safety is paramount for all in the sport,” URU said on Wednesday via a missive signed by its Hon. Secretary Peter Odong.

However, the pools and venue for the event remain as previously communicated.

With five out of six circuits played, Kobs, also title holders lead the series table with 102 points, just three ahead of second placed Black Pirates. Third placed Heathens have 89 points.

The finale is a tricky outing for both Kobs and Black Pirates with the former needing to get past the semis to possibly claim the title while the latter require a circuit win and also hope that the former is beaten in a post-group stage match but before reaching the final.

*Pool B: Kobs, Buffaloes, Eagles, Kisubi Pacers.
