Uganda’s second national stadium, under construction in Hoima City, is taking shape at a remarkable pace thanks to Turkish construction firm SUMMA.
The $129 million project, which commenced earlier this year, is being executed with precision and speed that has impressed stakeholders during routine inspections.
The stadium is expected to play a critical role in Uganda’s hosting of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), as Hoima has been designated as the country’s second host city alongside Kampala. The venue will complement Uganda’s efforts to co-host the prestigious tournament with Kenya and Tanzania, marking a historic milestone for the East African region.

During a recent inspection, National Council of Sports (NCS) Assistant General Secretary Administration Joseph Oluga, Engineering Officer Nicholas Zirimenya, and supervising consultants from the Ministry of Works and Transport praised the progress on site.
SUMMA’s commitment to completing the multi-sports complex within the 18-month timeline—or possibly earlier—has been evident in the visible advancements.
The facility will feature a 20,000-seater stadium, a 2,000-seater indoor arena, a training pitch, outdoor courts for basketball, netball, and volleyball, a semi-Olympic swimming pool, and a parking lot accommodating over 1,000 vehicles.

With these components already taking shape, the stadium promises to become a centerpiece for sports development in Uganda and beyond.
Hoima City is positioning itself as a key player in Uganda’s sports and tourism landscape, and the ongoing stadium project underscores the nation’s readiness to host AFCON 2027 while fostering sports excellence for future generations.
