The 2019 Ball games II national secondary sports championship started this Saturday till July 14 at Teso College Aloet in Soroti after the draws on Thursday at NCS, Lugogo.

The schools will compete in netball, football U16, volleyball, handball, athletics, woodball, rugby 7s and swimming that was held last weekend.

The top schools will join those from the Fresh Dairy games (Ball games I) earlier held in Mbale to represent the country in the East African secondary schools games due August 15-25 in Arusha, Tanzania.

In netball, reigning champions St Mary’s SS, Kitende are ready to defend the title despite losing 35-33 to Buddo SS in the Wakiso district qualifiers.

Kitende also lost to Buddo SS in the Copa Coca-Cola boys football district qualifiers but went ahead to clinch the national trophy.

“We are very ready for the challenge. We went back and prepared well for the national title after losing at the district and I am confident, we shall come back winners and also win the East African title,” noted Dr. Lawrence Mulindwa, the St Mary’s SS, Kitende director, whose side was drawn in group A along with Dr. Aporu Okol Memorial, City Land College Matugga, Mubende Light and Arua Public school.

StNoa Girls, who are the East African title holders and Mpigi region champions Ngando SS are the other schools expected to challenge Kitende that started title defense with a 31-11 win over Mbalala SS on Sunday.

St Noa Girls-Zana, Buddo SS, Kawanda SS, Ngando SS start the campaign on Monday. Netball discipline attracted over 90 Schools which were drawn in 15 groups.

Over 1000 students are taking part in this year’s edition of the games organized by Uganda secondary schools sports association (USSSA) together with the ministry of education and sports.
