URA FC have officially appointed Hussein Mbalangu as their new head coach for the remainder of the 2025/26 season, with an option to extend his contract at the end of the campaign.
Mbalangu replaces Alex Isabirye Musongola as the Tax Collectors seek to reignite their season following a slow start in the league.
The CAF A–licensed tactician takes charge at a critical moment and has been tasked with steering URA FC back to winning ways. He arrives with a familiar technical team, which was officially unveiled in Zanzibar on Monday ahead of the club’s participation in the Mapinduzi Cup.
Mbalangu will be assisted by Bastu Semuyaba as first assistant coach and Richard Kansole as second assistant coach. Muwadda Byuma has been appointed goalkeeper coach, while Farouk Osama will serve as the fitness trainer.
As part of the restructuring, interim head coach Edward Golola has been relieved of his duties. However, URA FC have maintained continuity within the backroom staff, retaining Manko Kawesa as deputy fitness trainer and Isma Sserebe as the team statistician.
Speaking to club media during his official unveiling in Zanzibar, Mbalangu expressed confidence and ambition as he begins his new role.
“We are here to work and to bring back the success this great club deserves. I thank the management for the trust and the opportunity. We are ready to start immediately, beginning with the Mapinduzi Cup. Those who haven’t played URA FC yet should get scared — we are here to win,” Mbalangu said.
The experienced coach brings a strong résumé, having previously handled several clubs across the region and beyond. His coaching journey includes stints at Banadir SC (now Mogadishu City) in Somalia, Blacks Power, Arua Hill, Mbarara City and, most recently, NEC FC.
Mbalangu’s immediate focus will be the Mapinduzi Cup in Zanzibar, where URA FC will kick off their campaign on December 31 against Mlandenge FC at the Amaan Stadium.
