ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier: Cricket Cranes eye redemption in final group tie against Botswana

The Cricket Cranes will look to restore their pride when they face Botswana in their final Group B fixture of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Africa Qualifier at Takashinga Cricket Club tomorrow morning, 10:30 am (EAT).

After suffering defeats against Zimbabwe and Tanzania, the team has reset and is keen to finish the campaign on a high. Uganda’s resilience was on show during a gym, swim, and bonding session at their residence in Harare earlier today, as players came together to lift each other’s spirits ahead of the clash against Botswana.

“Sunday was tough. Everyone literally went hiding after the game, locked up in their rooms inconsolable. But this morning’s team workout and breakfast session helped us pick ourselves up. Such results also strengthen our resolve and make us grow as part of our processes,” said pace bowler Innocent Mwebaze, who is in line for his tournament debut. Veteran Frank Nsubuga, who is yet to play a game in this campaign is also in line for a bow.

Uganda’s head-to-head record against Botswana is dominant, with seven straight victories since 2019, including three back-to-back victories at last year’s Africa Continental Cup in Gahanga, Rwanda by 78 runs, 108 runs and 32 runs respectively. But the Cricket Cranes remain wary of a Botswana side that has talented individuals like Karabo Mothlanka, Dhruv Maisuria, and Thatayaone Tshose, all capable of turning a match on its head.

Despite a difficult campaign, the Cricket Cranes remain focused on finishing strong. The group remains united and determined to remind fans of the progress made in recent years.
