The Uganda Armed Forces will take on motocross track when they take part in inaugural ‘Armed Forces Appreciation Motocross Championship’ due October 6, 2019 at the Busiika motorsports arena, Luwero.

The championship launched on Friday at the Kololo airstrip is a fulfillment of the ‘Respect Program’ under the Federation of Motorsports Clubs of Uganda (FMU) where motocross will lead the nation in saying ‘Thank you’ to all the service men and women who put their lives at risk to protect the nation.

FMU Vice president in charge of motocross Barak Orland stated that the championship intends to let the Armed Forces and civilians understand that they are one.

“This event will allow the armed forces to interact with the civilians,” said Orland, who revealed that a number of elite riders will fly in to join Uganda’s for the championship from Kenya, Zimbabwe, Zambia, South Africa and Botswana.

Far from Africa, Israel will represent the Middle East while Belgium, Spain, Germany, France and Netherlands will lead the European participation while USA and Canada will also have representation.

FMU President Dusman Okee said there will be exciting cash prizes on top of sports tourism led by the foreign contingents.

“The championship will strengthen international relationship with the partaking countries as well as acting as a rehearsal for the national team riders who will partake in the Africa motocross championship due August 2020 in Busiika,” noted Okee.

The championship launch was also among others attended by UPDF Deputy Spokes person Lt Col Deo Akiiki and Col Paddy Ankunda, the Director of strategic communication at CMI, riders and riders’ parents.
