Cricket Uganda has reinforced its leadership role in African cricket following high-level engagements with International Cricket Council (ICC) Chairman Jay Shah, marking a significant milestone in the nation’s sporting development.
The discussions, held alongside meetings with leaders from the Africa Cricket Association, placed Uganda’s strategic priorities firmly on the agenda. Infrastructure development and high-performance support emerged as central themes, recognized as essential foundations for sustainable growth, competitiveness, and long-term credibility on the global cricket stage.
Cricket Uganda Chairman Kavuma Jackson highlighted the importance of the dialogue, emphasizing the need for alignment between national ambitions and international frameworks.
“Our discussions with the ICC Chairman, Jay Shah, focused on infrastructure and high-performance support as critical pillars for Uganda’s growth, competitiveness, and credibility as a cricketing nation. The future of the game depends on collective alignment, shared vision, and decisions made in the national interest,” Jackson said.
Uganda’s delegation articulated a clear readiness to invest in modern facilities and implement systems designed to identify, develop, and retain elite talent. This approach positioned Uganda not only as a beneficiary of ICC support but also as a proactive partner in shaping the future of cricket across the African continent.
The engagement coincided with Jay Shah’s attendance at the ICC Under-19 World Cup hosted at Cricket Namibia’s newly developed Namibia Cricket Ground (NCG), underscoring the ICC’s broader commitment to strengthening cricket infrastructure and pathways across Africa.
