The roar of the crowd was deafening, but for Isaac Ogwang, it was music to his ears. Scoring on his debut for the Uganda Cranes during the CHAN 2024 Qualifiers against Burundi at the Hamz Stadium in Nakivubo was the culmination of years of hard work, perseverance, and unwavering determination.
The Police FC striker, known for his pace and aggression, opened his account for the national team in style, making a memorable first impression in the first leg match of the qualifiers. Although Ogwang had previously featured for the Cranes in regional tours, this was his first appearance on the senior team, marking a significant milestone in his career.
Speaking to FUFA’s official website, Ogwang expressed his joy and determination:
“Being summoned to the national team is a reward for hard work, and scoring on my debut is an incredible feeling. It’s every footballer’s dream to wear the national colours, and for me, it’s a dream come true. This is just the beginning of the journey, which calls for even more hard work to remain part of the team. Hosting CHAN is a great opportunity for all players and every Ugandan. Who wouldn’t want to be part of history?”
Ogwang’s journey has seen him rise through the ranks, playing for clubs like KJT FC, Sparta FC, SC Villa, and Arua Hill before joining Police FC. His determination and consistent performance have now earned him a place in Uganda’s CHAN squad, a team eager to make history on home soil.
The striker’s goal provided a crucial advantage for Uganda in their quest to qualify for CHAN 2024, a tournament the nation will host for the first time. With players like Ogwang stepping up, the future looks promising for the Cranes as they prepare for the return leg against Burundi.
