Jinja SSS defended their Boys Schools Cricket Week title in dominant fashion against old rivals Busoga College Mwiri. The defending champions defeated the record winners by 50 runs in front of a passionate home crowd.

Jinja SSS won the toss and elected to bat 1st, Richard Sohera and Magezi Ronald started cautiously playing with good intent to pick up ones and twos that kept the scoreboard ticking.

The nerves inside the 1st 10 overs didn’t help Mwiri as they gave away so many singles in front of themselves. A good passage of play allowed them to pick up key wickets but a late surge from Jinja SSS took the score to a challenging 130/8 in their 20 overs.

In the run chase, Mwiri needed a Gerald Olipa masterclass to take down Jinja SS but the lack of support from the rest of the unit let them down. He scored half of the team runs, contributing 40 out of the team total of 80. Only Eric Mukisa (11) was the only player to get into double figures but his 11 off 35 was so slow that it put pressure on Olipa to come up with something, once he tried to make things happen he lost his wicket and from thereon there was no way back for the record winners.

Jinja SSS win back-to-back titles and a fifth title overall.

In the Plate Final, Shree Sahajand nearly fumbled the run chase against King’s College Budo but got over the line by 1 wicket. King’s College Budo running out of luck after winning their last two games by 1 run.

Match Day 7:
FINAL: Jinja SS 130/8 beat Busoga College Mwiri 80 by 50 runs
