Futsal Association of Uganda (FAU) attained full member of the FUFA after its admission during the 95th FUFA Annual General Assembly late last month in Adjumani. Futsal was started in the country with a mini-league in 2015 after Fufa availing $70,000 (Shs245m).
Since then, FAU has gone on to organize the FAU Futsal Elite League (FFEL), the FAU Futsal Uganda Cup (FFUC), The FAU Premier Classic Futsal Cup and the Somali Community League.
After organizing the mentioned activities and running consistently, the association, led by its chairman Hamza Jjunju, applid for full membership.
“As full members of FUFA, Futsal Association of Uganda will be represented by two delegates in every federation assembly. We filled application forms, submitted our reports, statutes and filled the declaration form,” explained Jjunju.
FAU became an associate member in 2017 and their role before has been contribution to debates without voting rights. However now, they are fully part of the decision-making process and have a share of the Fufa budget.
The new development means that we are now part of the local football parliament and will benefit from funding from the federation. This funding covers mostly costs for capacity-building, national team activities, infrastructure, and equipment,” Jjunju added
