JKL Lady Dolphins still favorites as NBL tips off

2019 FUBA National basketball league

Friday (Opening fixtures)

W – JKL Lady Dolphins vs KCCA Leopards, 6: 30pm

M – Betway Power vs City Oilers, 8: 30pm

JKL Lady Dolphins claimed their maiden national women basketball title last season after sweeping then holders UCU Lady Canons 4-0 in the best of seven playoffs final at the MTN Arena, Lugogo. The women champions, who made their national league debut two years ago, will face off against four-time winners KCCA Leopards to tip off the season this Friday evening at Lugogo. KCCA whose last league title came in 2014 already faced JKL’s wrath during the UCU invitational tournament and with the women in red struggling to rekindle their old flame, Dolphins will have loads of chances to get off the mark. After JKL’s an impressive last season and serious business in transfers, the team has already proved favorites. Ever since Jamila Nansikombi, Flavia Oketcho and Ritah Immanishimwe formed a formidable trio in 2018, fans see no reason not to believe that Lady Dolphins will end up as champions once again. With the league tipping off in a few hours, the Mandy Juruni coached team already secured new experienced sensations in Jane Maureen Atulinda (KIU Rangers), Brenda Nakitende (A1 Challenge) and Asinde (Magic Stormers). UCU Lady Canons are the near challengers but after the departure of key players in the off season, their 42-47 loss to JKL at their own invitational tourney a few days ago might be a signal of no chance. JKL’s effort level tends to ebb and flow on a night-to-night basis. In last season’s playoffs, UCU would have had a kill especially in game four but JKL stayed incredibly motivated over the cause of the game and won it in the last seconds
