LUGAZI – The 2025 Johnnie Walker Uganda Open Golf Championship resumes tomorrow- Thursday, August 28, with the Ladies Open, at Lugazi Hills Golf and Country Club. The three-ball tourney will run for three days, with over 100 lady golfers from across the region and beyond, expected to participate.

The Ladies Open rolls out the second week of the 2025 Johnnie Walker Uganda Open Golf Championship, building on the momentum set by last week’s Seniors Tournament.

2024 Johnnie Walker Uganda Ladies Open title holder Iddy Madina, from Tanzania, is a hot favorite to win the championship, after bagging top honors at the recently concluded Uganda Golf Club Ladies Open.

She’ll lead a cast of her countrymates, who have consistently made their mark on the leaderboard. Notable contenders from Tanzania include 2018 winner Neema Olomi, and Hawa Wanyeche.
Madina showcased remarkable form after successfully retaining her title at the Uganda Golf Club (UGC) Ladies Open in Kampala. Additionally, Madina successfully defended her title at the Zambia Ladies Open- in June, and later claimed the Ghana Ladies Open in July.

Peace Kabasweka, the 2023 Johnnie Walker Uganda Ladies Open winner, has been conspicuously missing on the golf scene for sometime now, after playing her first-ever tournament in the United States, where she’s currently based.

Kabasweka carded well as she featured at the 95th Ladies National Golf Association (LNGA) Amateur Championship, held at the Home Course in Dupont, Washington State.

Kabasweka didn’t defend her title last year, as the event coincided with her parents’ 50th wedding anniversary, a family milestone she chose to prioritize.

Eyes now turn to Martha Babirye as the Ugandan top contender. She finished third at the UGC Ladies Open, tying with Lira Ladies Open champion Meron Kyomugisha in third position.

Babirye is no stranger to winning at Lugazi Hills Golf and Country Club having won the Pearl of Africa Series on the same course last month.

Madina and Babirye have crossed paths many times, including at the recently concluded UGC Ladies Open.

Among the Ugandans poised to leave their mark are standout players from the UGC Ladies Open, such as Judith Komugisha and Gloria Mbaguta, among others.

The previous Johnnie Walker Uganda Ladies Open attracted participants from over six countries, and this year promises even more.

Christine Kyokunda, the Johnnie Walker Brand Manager, says the Ladies Open is a vital part of the championship, shining a spotlight on the women’s game and inspiring lady golfers to keep walking.

“Each lady golfer always brings new energy and a different spirit to the Open, helping break barriers and inspiring others. She Walks the course with confidence and passion, showing that golf is for everyone,” she said.

The 2025 Johnnie Walker Uganda Open Golf Championship is sponsored by Absa Bank Uganda, Aquafina, Isuzu Mac East Africa, Uganda Tourism Board, Medisell Uganda, NBS sports, and MTN MoMo
