Peace Kabasweka and her golfing partner Sheila Kesiime have bowed out of the Singleton Match Play Challenge Season 6 after the conclusion of the event’s third round held over the weekend at Entebbe Club’s par-71 lakeside golf course.
Kabasweka and Kesiime who won the 2018 edition lost 2/1 to an all-male team of Alex Kazenga and William Buzibu denying them a chance to make it to the quarter finals scheduled for next month.
According to Kesiime, the wet and windy conditions earlier on Saturday morning didn’t favor them but she and her partner pride in the previous successful rounds.
“The game was really tight for us because of the weather conditions (wet and windy) earlier in the day. It wasn’t a smooth run but we put up a good fight,” Kesiime said at the 18th hole.
The exit of Kabasweka and Kesiime means that the tournament will once again have a new winning pair as it’s been the case after its inception.
For Kabasweka, the Entebbe Ladies Open title holder says that she will still continue playing at the event in the subsidiary category which has always been there from day one. Kesiime too says she will honor Singleton Match Play Challenge game days as a subsidiary.
“My focus will be to play monthly in the subsidiary category because these games can still keep me in good shape for other tournaments,” Kabasweka said adding that she has her eyes set on other engagements apart from the Match Play Challenge.
The exit of Kabasweka and Kesiime also implies that there is only one all-female team left in the main event out of the eight sides braced for the quarter finals. That is Patricia Nakasi and Berna Musanabera who beat an all-male team of Andrew Atuhaire and Colins Talemwa 3/2 in the previous round.
Nakasi and Musanabera will face an all-male team of Joram Tumwine and Julius Borore in round four (quarter finals).
The other interesting match up on Saturday was when senior couple Edrea and Charles Kagombe ejected out Uganda Golf Union President Moses Matsiko and his golfing partner Ashvin Kananathan off 6/5.
The Kagombes who are the only mixed pair in the mix will face an all-male team of Moses Ssebugwawo and Charles Odere in the quarters.
Meanwhile, a professional event of the tournament also started during the Easter weekend. The cut was limited to only eight top players for the quarter finals.
The pros quarter final will happen on 13th May and the players are reportedly playing for a UGX15M kitty.
