Peace Kabasweka, Uganda’s top female golfer, continues to shine as a symbol of excellence and discipline in the sport. Known for letting her swing do the talking, the introverted star from Fort Portal recently capped off a hectic yet rewarding schedule, setting the stage for what promises to be an exciting 2025 season.
Earlier this month, Kabasweka competed at the prestigious Leopard Creek Golf Club in South Africa, finishing 16th with scores of 86, 82, and 80. Reflecting on the challenging tournament, she noted, “It wasn’t easy self-caddying under the scorching sun there.” Her gross total of 248 was a respectable achievement, matching the performance of Tanzania’s Iddy Hussein Madina.
It was in Kigali, Rwanda, however, that Kabasweka truly made her mark. At the famed Kigali Golf Club, she cemented her status as one of the region’s top players. As the reigning Uganda Open champion, Kabasweka emerged as the best-performing lady golfer with a gross total of 321. Unlike her South African outing, this tournament saw female players grouped alongside men over four intense days of competition.
Reflecting on her success in Kigali, Kabasweka attributed it to her unwavering dedication and work ethic. “I am not yet the finished article yet,” she stated modestly, adding, “But I am all the same happy, very happy, because this is a reward for the hard work I put in every day.” She has already set ambitious targets for 2025 and is determined to achieve them.
Looking ahead, Kabasweka is preparing for several world amateur golf ranking events and hopes to improve her current rank of 209 globally. Her packed schedule includes the Entebbe Ladies Open, the Kenya Ladies Golf Union tournament, and the Uganda Ladies Golf Open.
Kabasweka missed the chance to defend her Uganda Ladies Open title last year, which was claimed by Iddy Hussein Madina at Entebbe. However, she is among the favorites for the 2025 edition, set to take place at Lugazi Golf Hills and Country Club. Notably, she had to sit out the 2024 Open due to family obligations, as her parents celebrated 50 years of marriage.
Admired for her consistency and discipline, Kabasweka’s commitment to the sport has earned her a reputation as an elite golfer and a role model. She continues to inspire young girls pursuing the sport across Uganda and beyond.
