Kajoba tasked with quality football at Vipers SC

Fred Kajoba Kisitu will succeed Edward Golola as Vipers SC coach for unspeciafied period starting this Sunday. Kajoba, who has been having no club since parting ways with Bright Stars in July last year, was unveiled to the media on Sunday morning at the St Mary’s SS, Kitende before he handed his first training session.

Ibrahim Mugisha was also unveiled as the goal keeping coach whom Kajoba recommended. “We want to give the head coach chance to bring in his backroom staff. Edward Ssali also stays from the previous technical team that was dissolved on Kajoba’s recommendation. We want a coach who will add value to players for European market and control the dressing room,” noted Dr. Lawrence Mulindwa, the Vipers SC President, who did not elaborate on Kajoba’s contract duration due to what he called confidentiality clause –saying that Kajoba had come to stay.

“We targets to fulfill at a given time, we are in business and it must bring positive returns. The quality of football also matters because fans come to be entertained,” he added. Mulindwa also defended his decisions to fire Golola despite leaving the side on top of the premier with four points above second placed KCCA FC after 18 games.

“Am looking at that time when I have a coach that can stay for 12 years; I have coaches at school that have lived since 2005 to date. It is not just a fashion that at Vipers we keep on changing coaches. Nobody would love these changes because they are expensive. Whenever there are changes new contracts are signed, there are compensations and if we are not committed, we would not be having these infrastructures here. My dream is too big and whoever cannot match with me finds problems,” Mulindwa remarked before unveiling the 50-year old.

The honorary FUFA President said that the new coach must have struggled with mid table teams but with the quality of players at Vipers SC, he is destined to succeed.

Kajoba, who is not known for free-flowing entertaining football approach said that he prayed for this Vipers SC job for some time and it was great that he finally landed it.

“I prayed to get this job and when I got it, I again prayed. Dr. Mulindwa gave me the Uganda Cranes goal keeping coach job while still FUFA President and he is a friend. I was wondering why he could not trust me with his club. Now I am here and I have come to win the league. I want to thank the outgoing technical team for the great job done and we shall consult them. Player must deliver to full potential. I am turf of the pitch and simple away from it. Players need to be my friends but most importantly need to know that we have targets and they have bigger role to play,” noted Kajoba. The Uganda Cranes goal keeping coach, who led Bright Stars to the final of last season Uganda Cup before losing to Proline, also managed Simba (UPDF) FC.

Edward Golola, his assistant Richard Wasswa and the entire technical team was sacked last week after the Venoms lost to third division side Kajjansi United 8-7 on penalties after a 1-all draw in the 2019/20 Stanbic Uganda Cup Round of 64 tie played at the Betway Muteesa II stadium, Wankulukuku.

Kajoba’s first assignment comes on Tuesday when the three-time Uganda champions visit Mbarara City at Bombo barracks as the StarTimes Uganda premier league returns from the Uganda Cup break.
