Katikiro bins Royal boat regatta for FUFA Drum, postponed

The 2019 Kabaka royal boat regatta earlier scheduled date for the first outing has been changed, Pepper Sport can confirm.

The first outing was due this Saturday (March 30) at Kiyindi landing site with three Buganda counties (Masaza); Bugerere, Kyaggwe and Buvuma taking part. The change was due to the fact that the Buganda Katikiro (Premier) Owek.

Charles Peter Mayiga, who was the expected chief guest has many events colliding with the boat regatta and thus would not make it.

According to Fifi Phiona Namiiro, the regatta coordinator, a new date will be set after confirmation from the office of the Katikiro.

According to sources, Katikiro chose to grace the FUFA Drum tournament 2019 opener this Saturday at Mukono Bishops SSS as his Buganda hosts Lango than the royal regatta. 

Eng. Ben Misagga, the chairman organising committee had visited the host venue early this month and was impressed with the organisation at the ground.

This year’s competition will be held at three different venues in order to spread the sport –with first outing at Kiyindi landing site where the Katikiro will grace the event, the second at Mulungu in Munyonyo on April 17 which hosted the last edition in 2017 and the final at Nabugabo sand beach, Masaka on May 25 where Kabaka (King) His Majesty, Ronald Muwenda Mutebi will be the chief guest.
