Kauga ease past Layibi as Skyview Boys’ Schools Cricket Week nears climax

St. John’s High School, Kauga beat St. Joseph’s College, Layibi by 9 wickets during one of the games of day four of the Skyview Boys’ Schools Cricket Week on Wednesday at Jinja SSS oval.

Layibi who bowled first only managed 34/10 in 12.5/20 overs after Kauga fielded precisely. The latter later had a short stint on the crease, posting 35/1 in 4.1/20 overs, winning the game by 9 wickets.

For Layibi, no player managed double figures while on the crease. Aldo Rubangakene (8 runs) was the team’s best performing batsman while six players suffered a duck.

Victor Aroma picked four wickets while Ronnie Ambayo and Cymprous Igulu picked two wickets each. Jackson Asiku had a wicket for himself.

For Kauga’s innings, three players got the job done. Ronald Omara (10 runs) and Victor Aroma (11 runs) were unbeaten on the crease while Abdul Shakur Dokar (5 runs) was bowled by Felix Ochan earlier on.

Kauga now leads Group B of the tournament with 10 points off five wins from six games. Layibi who are tournament debutants are sixth on the 8-team table with two points from four games.

Meanwhile, Busoga College Mwiri lead Group A with eight points from four games , two points ahead of second placed Jinja SSS.

The Skyview Boys’ Schools Cricket Week, 2023 edition is currently underway in Jinja City and will wind down on 1 September 2023. It features 16 secondary schools from across the country.
