Crested Cranes and Kampala Queens defender Aisha Namukisa failed to convert her kick as the Kawempe-based defending champions bowed out at the quarter finals.

Gadaffi defied odds to beat previous winners Mukono High 7-6 in penalties during last year’s final to win their maiden title after a 1-1 normal time draw and their ejection leaves record winners Kawempe Muslim and fierce Mukono High as favourites to lift this year’s title after impressive quarter final wins.

Kawempe thrashed helpless Buhobe SS 7-0 in the morning tie at Mbale municipal stadium with Namata Anita, Juliet Nalukenge and Margaret Kunihira grabbing a brace each while Hadija Nandago got once on score sheet.

Mukono High meanwhile thumped Pride Mixed, Mpigi 5-0 in the mid morning tie.

Competition’s top scorer Fauzia Najjemba netted a hat trick to take her tally to 13 while Elizabeth Nakigozi netted twice. In the other quarter clash, St Noa Girls, Zana toiled to a 1-0 win over Uganda Martyrs High School, Rubaga -thanks to Sandra Kisakye’s first half goal.

The results mean that Kawempe will face Mukono Bishops at semi finals this Friday while St Noa battle Mukono High. In the other disciplines, holders Namilyango College will battle St Mary’s College, Kisubi (SMACK) in the finals of rugby 15s this Friday in a battle of schools rugby titans.

SMACK beat Ntare School 27-14 at the semi finals while Namilyango beat Makerere College School 20-3. In lawn tennis, Kibuli SS will face Mary Hill at the final girls final whilst Namagunga and Gazaya High face-off in third place play-off. Kibuli beat Gayaza 3-0 while Mary Hill defeated Namagunga 2-1 at the semi finals.

In basketball Girls, St Mary’s SS, Kitende plays Exodus at the last eight while St Noa faces Mary Hill in quarter finals this Friday before the semi finals later in the day.

The other quarter final fixtures see Nabisunda playing Crane High while Buddo SS plays Hope Watoto. The Fresh Dairy –sponsored games will have most of the semi finals and finals played this Friday before the awards ceremony on Saturday.
