FUFA Super Cup 2019

Wednesday, 4pm

KCCA vs Proline, Lugogo

KCCA FC manager Mike Mutebi says that Vipers SC did not come to play when the two sides faced off in the Pilsner Super 8 tournament second edition final final on Sunday at the Betway Muteesa II stadium, Wankulukuku.

The Venoms beat 10-man KCCA 2-0 to dethrone the Lugogo side that also had their center back John Revita sent off.

The reigning Premier league champions will complete their three games in five days this Wednesday when they take on FUFA Big league champions Proline FC in the season curtain raiser FUFA Super Cup at the StarTimes stadium, Lugogo.

Like KCCA, who played African Stars FC from Namibia in the CAF Champions league preliminary round, return leg last Friday, Proline also played Masters Security from Malawi in the CAF Confederations Cup, preliminary round return leg.

Both sides advanced to the next stage of the respective competitions on aggregate. “They did not come to play football but to knock everybody they found. They were moving like beasts on the pitch and there was no way we could play our way. But against Proline, I expect both teams to exhibit the best football for the fans. We want to win but we also have to have it that this is entertainment to the fans. We need to live back what the fans can discuss; like the best goals, passes, dribbles, free kicks among others,” noted Mutebi. “Currently KCCA and Proline are the best teams in Uganda. One is the premier league champion and the other is the Big league champion. Both teams have advanced to the next stage at the continent and play the best football in the country. I look forward to an entertaining affair,” he added.

After the Pilsner Super Cup final, Vipers SC Coach Edward Golola confessed that indeed he compacted the midfield to deny KCCA spaces where deadly Allan Okello would operate which worked for them.

“We were a little physical and went for man-to-man marking approach which denied them space to play. It worked for us because KCCA are god ball players,” noted Golola.

Proline will be playing the FUFA Super Cup for the first time today while holders KCCA beat Vipers SC on penalties 4-2 after barren stalemate in last year’s fixture for their third straight title.

It will also be Matia’s Lule first domestic game in charge since replacing Shafiq Bisaso as Proline head coach. He started his reign with a barren draw against Masters Security in Malawi on Saturday.

Goal Keeper Hassan Matovu and defender Bernard Muwanga on loan from KCCA are ineligible tofeature for Proline against mother club.

KCCA open the league on Saturday at home against Wakiso Giants on the same day Proline visit Mbabara City at Luzira.
