KCCA FC Manager Mike Mutebi Surprised everyone who attended the club’s 2018/19 season awards at the StarTimes stadium, Lugogo on Tuesday night with his surprise announcement. The modest ceremony was attended by invited guests led by club Patron and Lord Mayor Hajji Erias Lukwago and KCCA Ag. Executive Director Andrew Kitaka; club management, sponsors and partners, fans, players and technical staff as well as well wishers.

On rather supposed to be a big night for Timothy Awany, having been named the best KCCA FC player of the recently concluded season, the Uganda Cranes center back instead knew at the very evening that he won’t wear the armband next season.

Mutebi, without giving detailed reason, named goal keeper Charles Lukwago, who was named the season’s most disciplined player, Julius Poloto and Mustafa Kizza as the new captains in that order. Lukwago has been the Awany assistant.

Awany was not only voted the MTN ‘Philip Omondi’ best player of the season, but also the MTN fans’ best after captaining the Lugogo side their 13th league title.

Awany, who took home Shs6m cash prize in total, joins Geoffrey Sserunkuma and Joseph Ochaya who won the 2017 and 2016 best player accolades respectively. Mustafa Kizza was named the players’ player of the season.

In the same vein, Patrick Henry Kaddu landed Shs3m from club sponsors Vivo energy Uganda. Kaddu was the club’s top scorer and Vivo Energy’s Emanuel Ssebunya, the brand manager for fuels congratulated KCCA for winning the 2018/19 Premier league, and Kaddu for topping the club’s scoring chats.

Lukwago, Kizza and Junior team’s Juma Ibrahim -the MTN Jackson Mayanja youngest player of the year, won Shs1m each.

“As Vivo Energy, we are extremely proud to work with champions like KCCA. The prize money for top scorer is meant to recognize his hard work,” he said.

Vivo Energy are the official fuel partners of KCCA FC after extending Shs32m sponsorship at the start of the season. KCCA’s awards night was preceded by a trophy parade in the five divisions of KCCA earlier in the day.
