KCCA’s Mike Mutebi Explains Why He Roots For Squad Depth
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

In the recent past, KCCA FC has signed seven players ahead of the 2020/2021 season, that is; Mugume Ashraf, Lwanga Charles, Mazengo Stefano Loro, Iguma Dennis, Bright Anukani (loan), Brian Aheebwa and Kigozi Samson.

The club is reportedly interested in bringing in more charges to the team as they seek to build a great strating XI and bench as well.
KCCA FC gaffer Mike Mutebi has come out to speak about this window’s signing spree at the club which he claims is linked to the aspect of squad depth, something he roots for.

“We want to have at least three players in each position and competing at the top level if we are going to meet our goal to compete at the top level especially on the continent,” Mutebi told the club website.

Mutebi adds that the club’s last season’s experience on injuries has made him and the team secure more signatures in order to have enough back up in the bench.

“When we suffered injuries last season especially with the core of the team, we did not have able replacements. But now that we have at least two to three players in every position I am quite sure we shall compete at the top-level next term,” Mutebi added.

Albeit interest in squad depth, Mutebi adds that he trades in the transfer market very carefully.
“I am signing players who I know have potential and who are young and hungry to adapt to modern ways of playing the game,” Mutebi said.

Mutebi also adds that he always signs players who will stay at the team for a long time that is why he prefers younger players at the club.
