2019 Castle Lite Uganda Open Golf Tournament

August 29 – 14th September

Ladies Open: Martha Babirye – UG (Winner)

4 – 7 September: Amateurs Open

10 September – Pro-Am

11 – 14 September: Professionals Open

After the climax of the Ladies event, the 2019 Castle Lite Uganda Open golf tournament Amateur event also comes to an end this Saturday after teeing off on Wednesday at the Lake Victoria Serena, Kigo.

In the build-up to the Amateurs event, Ugandan handicap 2 male golfer and defending champion Ronald Otile was tipped to retain the title.

However, he endured false start to this 78th edition of the annual tournament.  The US-based player and a member of Tooro Golf Club managed a gross of 82 and finished at the 42nd spot on match day one.

This was one of the worst starts of a title holder at the Uganda Open which calls for extra ordinary effort if he is to retain his title when the 72-stroke play event climaxes this Saturday.

A 13 shot deficit between Otile and day one leader, Simon Njogu Muthoni (69) of Great Rift Valley Golf Club Kenya is a huge testimony of the Kenyans plot to disrupt the established order at the amateurs meet.

Njogu said that his main target was to win the overall title despite understanding how it will be. Kenya’s Peter Mwangi Rimu of Thika Sports Club managed a gross of 71 and was second on day one.

Kenya Railway Golf Club star Samuel Cheje Njoroge emerged third with a gross of 73 hence the Kenyans dominance at the podium is an eye opener to other charges.

Last year, Otile returned to the top seat on day three and four but this year’s day one collapse puts an uphill task for the 2015 and 2016 champion.

The Uganda Open is sponsored by Nile Breweries Limited through the Castle Lite flagship brand. Uganda Tourism Board (UTB), Liquid Telecom, Pepsi, Britam, Absa, Isuzu and NTV are the other sponsors.
