Kibirige navigates tough field, looks to finish strong at Chhattisgarh Open in India

Ugandan professional golfer Marvin Kibirige, playing on his Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) debut, made a promising start after making the cut at the Chhattisgarh Open 2026, which winds down today at the par-69 Fairway Golf and Lake Resort in New Raipur.

Kibirige, who is one of the latest Ugandans to ply his trade outside the country, is testing himself against a strong field at the DP World PGTI’s opening event of the season.

Kibirige carded a 5-under-par 64 in the opening round, which he followed with a 65 on day two to make the cut in 18th position among the 51 golfers who advanced to the final two rounds. He returned a 67 in the third round, where he tied for 25th, but will be looking to finish on a strong note to secure a fair share of the Sh590 million prize kitty.

“I’m just trying to get into the system, figuring things out while building a competitive mindset and strengthening my competition muscle. Back at home, we’re used to playing two rounds in most events, so I have to adapt,” Kibirige told the media.

Kibirige will be banking on his stellar round one and two displays to climb up the leaderboard. He birdied six times on the opening day, and on day two, he shot five successive birdies from holes 3 to 7, only dropping a shot on number 16.

Indian pair of Anshul Kabthiyal and Honey Baisoya are joint leaders having carded 6-under 63 to move up the leaderboard, reaching a total of 21-under 186.

American Jhared Hack also produced a 63 on Thursday to gain one place and end the day in third position at 20-under 187.
