Ugandan golfer Marvin Kibirige is officially stepping onto the international stage with full-scale participation on the DP World Professional Golf Tour of India (PGTI) after earning his card through a tough 36-hole qualifier. Finishing second overall in the qualifier, Kibirige secured his spot among the top 30 players, granting him the chance to compete in weekly events across India.

Kibirige’s first stop was last week’s 2026 SECL Chhattisgarh Open, where he finished tied for 24th, successfully making the cut among 51 professional golfers who shared the prize fund. His performance earned him 169,800 Indian Rupees (approximately Ug.Shs 6.65 million), a solid start to what promises to be a busy season.

“Making it through the qualifier and then holding my own in the first tournament has been a big boost for me,” Kibirige said. “Playing consistently against top professionals each week is a fantastic way to grow my game and gain experience in different conditions.”

While American Jhared Hack claimed the spotlight with a record-breaking victory at the SECL Chhattisgarh Open, Kibirige’s steady debut highlighted his potential and resilience.

Next on the schedule for the Ugandan golfer is the 2026 DP World Players Championship, that has teed off today February 10, running up to February 13, at the Qutab Golf Course in New Delhi.

Kibirige will aim to build on his momentum from last week and contend for a higher finish against a competitive field.

The tournament offers a prize purse of INR 1.5 crore. The tournament week teed-off with the Pro-Am event on February 8.

The second event of the 2026 DP World PGTI season will see participation of 126 players including 125 professionals and one amateur.
