The second edition of the Kilembe Junior Golf Open was successfully held over the weekend at the par-73 Kilembe Mines Golf Club’s course in the Western Region District of Kasese.
Tournament organizer Habib Kissande who runs the annual event through the brand HABIB KISSANDE GOLF says that a total of 83 boys and girls from Entebbe Golf Club, Toro Golf Club and Kilembe Mines Golf Club graced the showpiece, meeting the organizers’ target.
“I feel humbled to have pulled off another successful tournament for these promising children. I believe with more support from the Uganda Golf Union, these children’s future is bright,” Kissande said adding that he’s thankful to all the participants, partners and the like.
However, Entebbe Club’s Elton Thembo emerged overall winner. The 17-year old scratch golfer shot 2 under par 71 (gross), three stokes ahead of Amon Bwambale who finished as runner up.
In the 15-18 years category, Damian Asiimwe beat Joel Kahuma on count back (65 nett) to emerge boys’ winner while Linder Elizabeth won in the girls’ category off 70 nett while runner up Rachel Kabugho had 76 nett.
Unlike the above category who played 18 holes, 13-14 years category played nine holes with Rogers Masereke emerging boys’ winner with 40 nett, Allan Birungi was runner up off 41 nett.
Juniors aged 8-12 years played six holes with Mark Tugume (27 nett) emerging boys’ winner with Hassan Mbayahi as runner up off 30 nett. Girls’ winner was Linet Mbambu (34 nett) while Harriet Masika was second with 47 nett.
6-7 years category played 3 holes with Frank Muhindo (13 nett) emerging boys’ winner while Jerome Jesse Othieno was second with 16 nett. Girls’winner was Hailah Mbayahi Kissande off 13 nett and Leena Biira was second with 17 nett.
The youngest of them all, 4-5 years played only one hole with Yesse Ushindi winning the boys’category with 3 nett while runner up Kelly Thembo had 5 nett. The only girl in this category Gloria Kabugho had 4 nett.
After the junior showpiece, Kissande says that; “our junior development program will go on as we look forward to organizing more events next year. Am calling upon any one willing to be part of this cause to please contact me or reach us at Kilembe Mines Golf Club.”
