Hoima City based football outfit Kitara FC who recently gained promotion to the Uganda Premier League (UPL) have received a 40 seater bus as a donation from President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni.
However, ahead of the 2020/21 Uganda football season, Kitara are skeptical on how to get revenue to facilitate the day to day running of the club now that at least part of the transport issue has been handled.
According to the club CEO Joshua Atugonza, first the club is open to sponsors but also potential corporate companies can come aboard to brand the bus using their company logos in exchange of financial donations as the team seeks to gain strong financial ground.
“We are trying to commercialize our football because we must pay our players and branding our facilities is one way of generating money. If we can give room for marketing space to be used by interested entities and we generate something out of it then I think this will be excellent. Where we are heading, as a club we need to start generating our own revenue,” Atugonza told media in an interview.
Atugonza is hopeful that they can get new corporate companies on board before on when the new season kicks off.
“We are in talks with different stakeholders to make a decision on who will be working on the branding of the bus” Atugonza noted.
Kitara are keen on having a great debut season with the UPL tentatively set to kick-off on 3rd December 2020. The team is also plotting to launch a massive recruitment drive.
Kitara joined UPL after beating Kiboga Young 1-0 during the final of the FUFA Big League promotional playoffs played at FUFA Technical Center in Njeru.
Malaba Youth Development Association (MYDA) FC and Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) FC are the other sides that also gained promotion to the UPL but the pair qualified directly having finished among the top two sides in the regular season.
