UCU vs KU, Mukono

Uganda Christian University (UCU) host two-time champions Kampala University (KU) this Tuesday afternoon in the Pepsi University Football League clash in Mukono.

The two sides last met in last season’s quarter finals, return leg where KU lost 3-1. The Vincent ‘Titi’ Tumusiime side however progressed to the semi finals, thanks to their 3-0 first leg win.

Prior to that meeting, they had last played each other in 2014 in Mukono where they settled for a 2-2 stalemate. UCU Coach Mwera Jimmy says that the game will be a tough one but his side is well prepared for the task.

“Every game is a different and we handle it according to its circumstances. We were in knockout the last time we met and though we won the game, we lost the tie. This time round we are meeting in the group stage and we shall be looking for maximum points which I am confident we shall get,” Mwera said.

“KU are a tough team to play whether at home or away. I think the last time we played; they sat back knowing they had a 3-0 cushion but this time, I expect them to be looking for the points as we also look for the points. Ours is a very difficult group and every game is important,” he added.

KU Coach Tumusiime Vincent agrees with his counterpart. “Ours truly is the toughest group because each and every team can qualify. So each and every game is going to be very technical and tactical. You go looking for all the three points while at the same time making sure you don’t drop any points,” Tumusiime said.

“UCU are a tough team to play especially at home. They play good football and we are actually looking forward to playing them,” he added.

Two-time champions MUBS lead group with 4 points from two games while the others sides; KU, UCU and IUEA follow respectively. KU and UCU have played one game while bottom placed International University of East Africa (IUEA) have played two games.

The Pepsi-sponsored league continues on Wednesday with Bugema hosting Nkumba University.
