Kyadondo Rugby Club has promised to deliver the best circuit of the Nile Special 7s series when they host the fifth event of the series dubbed Kyadondo 7s on Saturday, 12th and Sunday, 13th. The circuit will be hosted by Platinum Credit Heathens.
While addressing the media on Monday at the establishment’s club house, Brian Tabaruka who is the Kyadondo Rugby Club chairman said that this will be the most exciting circuit of the season, on and off the pitch and fans should expect the best of the best.
“We believe that this will be the biggest and the best circuit of the season. We are looking forward to creating a fun filled weekend with all our partners on board. We are going to have a carnival atmosphere filled with rugby action, entertainment, food, drinks and the like,” Tabaruka said.
Isaac Lutwama who is the CEO of Uganda Rugby Union (URU) says that there is no doubt Kyadondo will be good hosts as they are experts in that field.
“We are confident that Kyadondo will put up a good event. The confidence comes from the fact that the Kyadondo 7s has been the longest running circuit throughout the years. I trust the organizing team here to deliver a carnival and spectacle that the club has promised,” Lutwama told the media.
Nile Special who are the 7s series official sponsor say that Kyadondo is their home and this weekend’s outing will further strengthen the bond betwixt the two parties. Douglas Karema who is the National Trade Marketing, Events and Assets Manager at Nile Breweries Limited believes that the Kyadondo 7s will be successful.
All those who will be at Kyadondo this weekend will enjoy free, open and secure internet (WiFi) courtesy of Sprint UG who have come on board to support the Kyadondo 7s.
As usual, Kyadondo Rugby Club’s
medical support service partners AAR Healthcare Uganda will be on ground on both days to give their services whenever needed.
Apart from hosting the fifth event of the series, Kyadondo will also be running the #KyadondoIsHome campaign, a celebration of the club’s profound impact on the rugby community and its wider influence on the lives of various individuals over the years. The campaign, leading up to the weekend event aims to amplify the club’s role as a home for rugby enthusiasts and a nurturing ground for the rugby community in Uganda, while showcasing its profound impact beyond rugby.
Philip Wokorach who plies his trade with French side ASBC started his journey at Kyadondo and he’s currently in town and will be at Kyadondo for this weekend’s event.
“My journey started here and I believe there are many people whose journey started here. Kyadondo is my home and I am glad to be part of the story,” Wokorach said before Kyadondo Rugby Club Captain Michael Wokorach added that he too owes a lot to the establishment.
Meanwhile, Kobs lead the series with 77 points, three ahead of Pirates who dropped to second on the table following a ‘crazy weekend’ in Fort Portal at the fourth circuit. Heathens are third with 62 points while title holders Hippos are still fourth now with 58 points, just four ahead of fifth placed Buffaloes.
Mongers who had a good show in Fort Portal are sixth with 50 points, six ahead of seventh placed Rhinos. Impis are eighth with 40 points, five ahead of ninth placed Walukuba Barbarians. Rams are 10th with 32 points whilst Warriors are at the bottom of the 11-core-team table with 20 points.
Meanwhile, in the women’s division, Black Pearls are in charge after they beat Avengers 12-05 in the final of the Fort Portal circuit. Black Pearls lead the table with 83 points whilst Avengers are second with 77 points. Thunderbirds are third with 72 points While Nile Rapids are at the bottom with 60 pints.
