Kyetume’s Hope’s of beating the drop suffered a major blow following a 3-1 loss at home to Mbarara City on Wednesday.
Starting the day three points from safety, the Slaughters could not get a positive result on an afternoon that would later see care-taker coach Jackson Mayanja asked to step aside.
A brace by Henry Kitegenyi either side of Hilary Mukundane’s first goal of the campaign condemned Kyetume to their 14th loss of the season.
Richard Matovu netted for the hosts late in the game but his strike was just a mere consolation in the end.
Kitegenyi put Mbarara City ahead on 27 minutes before Hilary Mukundane added a second on the half-hour mark.
The game was put to bed with 10 minutes to play as Kitegenyi headed home from close range.
Deep into the three minutes added onto the 90, Matovu netted for Kyetume but it was too late to mount any sort of come back.
The result leaves Kyetume in 14th with 23 points, three behind Busoga United who have played a game less.
For Mbarara City who have now won all their past four matches, they climb into 7th with 38 points from 27 games.
Up next for Kyetume is a trip away to Bright Stars on Wednesday while Mbarara plays host to UPDF FC the day before.
