Uganda Lady Rugby Cranes completed a double over Zimbabwe Lady Sables off a 03-34 victory during their second clash in the Rugby Africa Cup – Women’s Group C on Sunday, 18th July at Kyadondo Rugby Club in Kampala. Uganda had won the first clash 41-00 on Wednesday.

Lady Rugby Cranes ran in four converted tries and two penalties. The tries were scored by skipper Peace Lekuru (2), Emilly Lekuru and Faith Namugga while Charlotte Mudoola did the kicking.

However, in the men’s Group C clash, Algeria Lion Cubs upset hosts Uganda Rugby Cranes in a game held at the same venue with a 16-22 triumph. Brian Odongo and Adrian Kasito scored Uganda’s only tries as the home side struggled.

However, after the event, Uganda was still topping the men’s pool C because of a better goal difference following their 53-12 win against Ghana last weekend and make it to the quarter finals of the competition. Algeria lost 22-20 to Ghana in their first game but the former makes it to the next stage of the competition (Rugby Africa Cup 2022) while it’s the end of the road for the latter.

In the next stage of the competition (Rugby Africa Cup 2022) which serves as the quarter finals of the competition, Uganda Rugby Cranes will be up against perennial rivals and neighbours Kenya Simbas, who finished second of Group B which was topped by Senegal.

The 2022 Rugby Africa will pit together eight teams, top two from each of the four groups from the 2021 Rugby Africa Cup.

Going forward, an 8-teams Knock-Out tournament played with Quarterfinals, Semi-finals and a Grand-Finale will see the Winner qualify directly for RWC 2023 and the Runner-up compete in a Hlobal Repechage Tournament.
