Uganda’s Arthur Kaluma has turned an outstanding NBA Summer League campaign into a significant career milestone, agreeing to a two-way contract with the Los Angeles Lakers.
The versatile wing impressed throughout the Las Vegas Summer League, averaging 18.6 points per game while shooting an exceptional 50 percent from three-point range. His efficient scoring and all-around play convinced the Lakers to invest in his potential as they continue to build depth around their young core.
Kaluma’s strong summer followed an encouraging 2025-26 campaign with the South Bay Lakers, Los Angeles’ NBA G League affiliate. During the season, he averaged 13.8 points per game and connected on 37.8 percent of his three-point attempts, showcasing his ability to stretch the floor while contributing on both ends of the court.
His combination of size, athleticism, and perimeter shooting aligns well with the profile head coach JJ Redick has emphasized for the Lakers’ roster. With the team seeking greater versatility and reliable outside shooting, Kaluma could position himself to earn NBA minutes sooner than expected if he continues his upward trajectory.
Before the deal can become official, however, the Lakers will need to create an opening on their two-way roster. All three two-way contract slots are currently occupied, meaning one of Chris Mañon, AK Okereke, or Peter Suder would have to be released or have their contract status changed to make room for Kaluma.
For the 23-year-old forward, the agreement represents the latest step in a steady rise through the Lakers’ development system. The two-way contract will allow him to split time between the NBA and the G League while continuing to compete for a permanent place on Los Angeles’ roster.
