Lugogo Cricket Oval is set to come alive as the second edition of the Waterfalls Men’s Elite T20 tournament bowls off tomorrow, bringing together the country’s top male cricketers for another highly anticipated domestic showdown.
The tournament comes hot on the heels of the conclusion of the Women’s Elite competition and will feature three competitive sides: defending champions Itanda Kayakers, Bujjagali Rafters, and Karuma Rapids. The teams boast a mix of experienced campaigners and emerging talent drawn from across the country.
This year’s competition arrives at a crucial moment for Ugandan cricket, serving as an important build-up ahead of a busy calendar for both the Cricket Cranes and the Baby Cricket Cranes, with major qualification tournaments on the horizon.
Itanda Kayakers head into the tournament full of confidence after lifting the title during the inaugural 2023 edition. However, Sipi Trekkers, who featured in that first edition, will miss out this time round.
A key highlight of the Waterfalls Men’s Elite T20 remains its development-driven format. Each playing XI must include at least three Under-19 players, a rule aligned with the Women’s Elite League and one that continues to provide a clear pathway for young cricketers to transition into top-level competition.
Unlike the women’s tournament, the men’s edition will be played without a rest day, promising an intense and action-packed schedule throughout the week.
On the technical side, the teams will be under the guidance of experienced coaches. Jonathan Ssebanja will take charge of Itanda Kayakers, Sadam Oyaga will lead Bujjagali Rafters, while former international Roger Mukasa heads the Karuma Rapids setup.
The opening day promises fireworks, with Bujjagali Rafters facing a demanding double-header. They will take on Itanda Kayakers in the morning match scheduled for 10:00 AM before returning to face Karuma Rapids in the afternoon encounter at 2:00 PM.
