Mamelodi Sundowns, one of Africa’s football powerhouses, is set to embark on a special visit to Uganda as part of their Africa Tour, paying tribute to their legendary goalkeeper Denis Onyango and strengthening ties with Ugandan football.

The three-day visit, running from March 20 to 22, will see the South African club engage in various activities, including school visits, football clinics, and interactions with key Ugandan football stakeholders.

Tour highlights

On Thursday, March 20, the Sundowns delegation will visit Ntanda College in Butambala, approximately 68 kilometers south of Kampala. This initiative is part of the club’s commitment to inspiring young talent across the continent.

On Friday, March 21, the team will visit the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) to engage with local football authorities.

They will also pay homage to SC Villa, Denis Onyango’s former club, recognizing the roots of one of the most decorated goalkeepers in the Premier Soccer League (PSL).

The tour will conclude on Saturday, March 22, with football clinics at Hamz Stadium in Nakivubo from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM, giving aspiring Ugandan footballers an opportunity to learn from one of Africa’s most successful clubs.

Strengthening African football bonds

Mamelodi Sundowns announced the tour as the first leg of their African Tour, aimed at fostering relationships with football-loving communities across the continent.

The club’s social media statement emphasized that this initiative is not only about honoring Denis Onyango but also about giving back to African football through friendship and development programs.
