‎
‎The Chaapa League, powered by Guinness, kicked off its 11th season on Saturday, February 28th, attracting thousands in what became one of the biggest opening-day attendances in the history of alumni leagues.
‎
‎The day-long spectacle of competition, reunion, and celebration unfolded at NEC Grounds in Bugolobi, Kampala.
‎
‎The matchday brought together different cohorts of Mbarara High School Old Boys, alongside a section of Mary Hill Old Girls who turned up to support and reconnect. The atmosphere reflected the league’s growing stature as one of the most anticipated alumni sporting events in Uganda.
‎
‎On the pitch, defending champions Yobo Yobo set the tone early. The title holders edged XConvicts 1-0 to begin their campaign on a winning note. DingiSwayo produced the most dominant display of the day, thrashing Ruharo 6-0 in a commanding performance. Bulls Old Timers and Omutaji played out a balanced 1-1 draw, while Mutakoha secured a narrow 1-0 victory over CHOGM.
‎
‎Elsewhere, Burdizo claimed a crucial 1-0 away win against TY Sheldon, and Kyangabukama edged Karasande 2-1 in one of the tightly contested fixtures of the round. See Far also picked up a slim 1-0 win over Ezekyeenda, as Rugabo comfortably beat Akaju 2-0. SC Rwizi registered a 1-0 victory against Kataara, while Unruly impressed with a 3-1 triumph over Sikukulu.
‎
‎In the women’s division involving Mary Hill Old Girls, Nihoga wrapped up the opening round with a hard-fought 1-0 win against Holistics, capping off a day largely defined by narrow margins.
‎
‎Beyond the football, the festivities were capped by a performance from music duo Kataleya and Kandle, who thrilled the crowd with their latest hit, Totta, among other fan favorites, turning the sports grounds into a concert arena.
‎
‎Throughout the experience, Guinness elevated the outing with well-curated branded set-ups, ice-cold premium beverage offerings, and engaging activities that kept revelers engaged throughout the day.
‎
‎Speaking at the event, Denise Paula Nazzinda, the Guinness Brand Manager, emphasized the brand’s commitment to alumni leagues and community-driven experiences.
‎
‎“The Chaapa League represents unity, legacy, and the power of bringing people together through football. Guinness is proud to power this platform because it goes beyond the game. Season 11 started on a high note, and we look forward to an even bigger journey ahead,” she said.
‎
The Chaapa League returns on March 28th for Matchday Two.
