Uganda Premier League champions Vipers Sports Club on Monday announced Charles Livingstone Mbabazi as their new head coach.
Mbabazi joins the St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende based side on a two-year employment contract. He was recently at Arua Hill SC, another top flight side.
Mbabazi, 43 takes charge of the team immediately ahead of Wednesday’s encounter against NEC FC at home.
Mbabazi takes over from Leonard Martins Neiva, who left last month after reaching a mutual agreement with the club.
Mbabazi’s immediate task will be overseeing a turnaround of events at the club, having suffered two successive league defeats.
The double losses have seen the Venoms move to fourth on the table with 24 points in 13 games.
Meanwhile, at Arua Hill in the past two years, Mbabazi has seen the club finish fifth and fourth in the 2021/22 and 2022/23 campaigns, respectively. However, the side is currently struggling and are relegation bound as they sit at the bottom of the league table.
Mbabazi’s experience has seen him enjoy coaching stints at Wakiso Giants FC, Onduparaka FC, Mbarara City FC, Somalia National team, Soltilo Bright Stars FC, Lweza FC, and Masavu.
As a player, Mbabazi enjoyed a successful career especially with KCCA FC and Ireland side St Patrick Athletic, where he’s regarded as a club great.
He also played in Vietnam at Ha Noi ACB and Binh Duong, before capping his playing career at Wandegeya FC.
He is an ex-international, who actively played for the Uganda Cranes for four years between 1998 to 2003.
