Miracle’s Katabi Optimistic After Cherotich’s Arrival

Women’s Division 1 basketball outfit, Miracle Eaglets recently announced a new addition to their team in the shape of Lilian Sarah Cherotich. Dubbed ‘Chero,’ the former Javon Lady Phenoms forward joins her fellow Nabisunsa Girls’ School alumni Faith Phoebe Apio, who joined the team early in July 2020.

Among other personal improvements, Cherotich, a student of Makerere University Business School (MUBS) was the best blocker in the ladies Division One last season. This has made Head Coach Arnold Katabi very optimistic ahead of the new season that will possibly tip-off early next year following the recent cancellation of all this year’s domestic events by FUBA due to COVID-19.

“Chero is a great addition to our team and organisation at large. She comes in to solve our power forward solutions as in the past seasons we have had to depend on only Barbara Kwagala Namukaaya,” Katabi admitted.

“By the time we get to the post season she (Kwagala) is really fatigued because of the heavy game load. She has had to play all the games and she playes an average of 36 minutes,” Katabi added.

Katabi, also FUBA Vice President in charge of marketing and communications says that not only will Cherotich ease the burden on Kwagala’s shoulders, but also make the team’s defense a great deal. He also adds that they courted the player for a long time before making the final move.

“We had our eyes on her and it was clear that she is the addition we wanted to make. We hope to have her on long term as we continue to build the organisation. Her presence in the paint can’t be the ignored,” a confident Katabi stated.

Eaglets will be seeking a great display in the coming season as they seek to climb the ladder to the Women’s National Basketball League (WNBL), a top tier division in women’s basketball.
