The Kampala Serena Hotel was a hive of excitement on Friday morning as the MTN-FUFA Awards 2024 were officially launched at a colourful and star-studded event. With the theme “Celebrating Football Heroes, Inspiring Future Stars”, the ceremony marked the return of Uganda’s most prestigious football awards in grand style.

Now in their seventh edition, the MTN-FUFA Awards have grown to become the pinnacle of football recognition in Uganda, celebrating players, coaches, referees, clubs, fans, and other contributors whose dedication continues to elevate the beautiful game across the nation.

The launch attracted a diverse audience from the football fraternity, including FUFA Executive Committee members, Uganda Cranes and Crested Cranes stars, legendary players, the media, and sponsors. Among the dignitaries present were FUFA Awards Committee Chairman Rogers Byamukama, FUFA Executive Committee Member Rogers Mulindwa, and FUFA CEO Edgar Watson.

In his speech, Byamukama emphasized the importance of the awards as a reflection of Uganda’s football journey.

“The FUFA Awards are not just a celebration; they are a national reflection of our football journey and the stars who inspire the next generation.”

FUFA CEO Edgar Watson echoed this sentiment, highlighting the broader vision of this year’s edition.

“This year’s Awards shine a spotlight on growth, diversity, and excellence both on and off the pitch. We are excited to see the football family come together once again to honour our best.”

A major highlight of the event was the unveiling of the 2025 Awards theme and categories, introduced with an electrifying multimedia teaser. The upcoming edition promises to be the most ambitious yet, thanks to continued strategic backing from title sponsors MTN Uganda.

The 2024-2025 awards will feature an expanded list of categories, including:

Male Player of the Year

Female Player of the Year

Male Best XI

Female Best XI

Male Coach of the Year

The event also featured remarks from key partners and sponsors whose continued support makes the awards possible.

John Paul Okwi, Sponsorships and Events Manager at MTN Uganda, reaffirmed the brand’s commitment:

“Football is the game of many colours, many tribes, and this aligns with what MTN believes in—Together We Are Unstoppable. The MTN-FUFA Awards will be one of the awards that will be marked on the calendar.”
