Mubiru names final COSAFA squad, Mbabazi named assistant

COSAFA 2019 Tournament 

25th – 8th June

FUFA has named Mbarara City FC Head coach Livingstone Mbabazi as the assistant to Abullah Mubiru for the Cranes squad preparing for this year’s COSAFA tournament due June 25-28 in Durban, South Africa.

Mbabazi, who has also been named the Buddu FC Coach ahead of this year’s Airtel-Masaza Cup tournament that kicks off early next month, was the Coach for Western region Select that lost to th COSAFA Cranes 1-0 in the Cranes regional tour match on Saturday in Bushenyi.

Abdallah Mubiru

The former Uganda Cranes play maker brings wealth of experience on the team as he joins Mubiru, Geoffrey Massa and Sadiq Wassa as head coach, team manager and goal keepers coach respectively who have been in charge of the team since last week.

Mubiru named his final 20-man squad involving 2 goalkeepers, 7 defenders, 7 midfielders and 4 strikers. Six players including Charles Lukwago, James Alitho, Allan Okello, Daniel Sserunkuma, Mustafa Mujuzi and Uganda Premier League top scorer Juma Balinya, who were training with the preliminary Cranes squad for the AFCON Finals are part of the COSAFA squad that flies out this Thursday, May 23.

The tournament begins on Saturday 25th May with group stages games but Uganda Cranes, as a guest team, will start at the quarterfinals on Saturday, June 1 against Lesotho.

Defenders: Willa Paul (Police), Kizza Mustafa (KCCA), Revita John (Express), Isinde Isaac (Kirinya Jinja SS), Mbowa Paul Baker (URA), Hassan Musana (KCCA), Mujuzi Mustafa (Proline),

Midfielders: Kasozi Nicholas (KCCA), Kagimu Shafik (URA), Mutyaba Muzamir (KCCA), Okello Allan (KCCA), Kayiwa Allan (Tooro United), Balinya Juma (Police), Mucuurezi Paul (Mbarara City),

Strikers: Senkatuka Nelson (Brights Stars), Bright Anukani (Proline), Bashir Mutanda (SC Villa), Sserenkuma Dan (Vipers SC)
