Pepsi University Football League

Wednesday, 3pm

Quarter – Finals (2nd Leg)

Uganda Martyrs (0) vs (0) MUBS

The first leg of the Pepsi University Football League quarter final tie between two time champions Makerere University Business School (MUBS) and former champions Uganda Martyrs University ended in a barren stalemate a week back in Nakawa.

The result left the tie wide open ahead of the return leg due this Wednesday in Nkozi. MUBS coach Ayiekoh Charles acknowledges the fact that it will be a tough game, but believes his charges will live up to the task.

“The first leg was a tough game. It was an even game which either side could have won. Our strikers had a bad day in office especially Munir Saidi, who had the best chance of the game. Fortunately they also failed to score and the game is still very open,” noted Ayiekoh.

“We are going to attack from the first whistle since we need goals and it is a tie that could end up being decided on away goals,” added Ayiekoh.

Uganda Martyrs coach Mugerwa Noah knows that it will be a tough game but remains hopeful that having held MUBS to a goalless draw at Nakawa, they will be able to finish the job at home.

“The first leg result was not a bad one. Although we didn’t manage to score, we also held MUBS at their home. The onus is on us now to finish the job at home,” said Mugerwa, who will be without defender Lukwago Nasser and midfielders; Mbigo Livingstone and Kazibwe Dan.

He said that he has suitable replacements in Kafumbe Masood and Othieno Gerald. Uganda Martyrs have never won against MUBS at home in the Pepsi University Football League but have also never lost to MUBS since the 2017 final the latter won 2-0.

On Friday, YMCA Comprehensive Institute host St. Lawrence University (SLAU) for the second leg of their semi final tie. SLAU have a 2-0 advantage from the first leg.
