Lady golfer Sharon Musiimenta returned the best score of 59 nett during the qualification round of the Singleton Match play Challenge held over the weekend at Entebbe Club’s par-71 golf course.
Musiimenta, handicap 47 was seeded in the ladies Group C where Grace Njeri, handicap 31 finished as runner up with 68 nett.
In the other ladies groups, Sheila Kesiime beat Anne Abeja by 69 nett on count back to win ladies Group A. Lillian Koowe emerged third with 72 nett.
In ladies Group B, Doreen Mwesigye emerged winner off 71 nett. Wendy Angudeyo was second with 75 nett while Jackie Kwesiga capped the podium with 76 nett on count back.
In the seniors category (55 years and above), Robert Sabiiti emerged winner off 72 nett, beating Charles Kagambe on count back.
In the men’s groups, Andrew Opio won Group A with 68 nett, Joel Nagaba won Group B with 66 nett and Tarzan Lubega won Group C with 67 nett.
In the side bets, David Nambale claimed the men’s longest drive award in hole 18. Martha Babirye claimed the women’s prize also on hole 18.
Men’s nearest to the pin winner was Peter Apell while Edrae Kagombe won the women’s category.
However, in the main event, five all-female teams have made it to the first round of the Singleton Match play Challenge.
The five pairs are; 2018 winners Peace Kabasweka/Sheila Kesiime, Anne Abeja/Ritah Akot Apell, Ruth Mugisha/Grace Njeri, Maxi Byenkya/Bridget Nakamoga and Wendy Angudeyo/Doreen Mwesigye.
The subsequent rounds have been scheduled as follows; 29th May – Round one, 26th June – Round two, 24th July – Round three, 21st August – Round four, 30th October Round five and 27th November Grand finale.
Throughout the championship, there will be a subsidiary event for players not participating in the match play.

Innocent Nahabwe and his golfing partner Adoch Luwum are the defending champions after winning the fourth edition of the Singleton whisky sponsored event last year. Nahabwe/Adoch beat the mixed pair of Diana Nambalirwa/Anthony Ndegwa 5/3 to claim the 2020 edition.
