Uganda Cranes youngster Travis Mutyaba has said he is happy to join Egypt Premier League side, Zamalek FC.

The 18-year old Mutyaba was unveiled by his new club earlier this week. ” I am happy to join one of Africa’s biggest teams. Thanks to everyone for the wishes, ” added Mutyaba.

Mutyaba becomes the first Ugandan to sign a contract with Zamalek who are five-time Confederation of African Football Champions League winners.

Mutyaba who is considered the next big Ugandan star last year helped the Uganda U-18 team win the regional CECAFA U-18 Championship in the final played in Kisumu, Kenya. He also featured in Uganda Cranes two group matches in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers losing 2-1 to Guinea and defeating Somalia 1-0.

The attacking midfielder last featured for Uganda Premier League side, SC Villa in the 2022/2023 season before he was reportedly set to join Georgian outfit Dinamo Tbilisi.

Besides featuring for the senior national team, Mutyaba also helped Uganda’s U-15 team win the CECAFA U-15 Championship in Eritrea in 2019 and the CECAFA U-17 Championship held in Rwanda in 2020.

Mutyaba’s new team Zamalek FC are placed 11th on the Egypt Premier League table after playing eight matches. He joins three other Ugandan players plying their trade in Egypt for other teams; Joseph Ochaya, Richard Basangwa and Allan Kyambadde.
