Muzamir Mutyaba’s first premier league goal of the season in the opening half was enough to hand KCCA FC a 1-0 home win at the StarTimes stadium, Lugogo on Saturday to end Vipers SC 16-match unbeaten that stretched from last season.

Vipers had last lost 2-1 against URA FC at home in May during last season’s third last match day fixtures and had not lost in the 13 games played this season. Mutyaba’s deflected effort off Geoffrey Wasswa came in the 30th minute after a dominant start by the reigning champions.

Mustafa Kizza long ball from the left found Erisa Sseksambu at the right who beat left back Aziz Kayondo to play a minus that Filbert Obenchan played a zero touch to connect Mutyaba who sent the home crowd to skies.

KCCA Coach Mike Mutebi said that it was a game of two halfs –after seeing his side dominate the opening half in which Mustafa Kizza was denied by the cross bar before Vipers grew in confidence, and brought the game to the hosts almost the entire second half with goal Keeper Jamil Maliyamungu making a match winning save from substitute Allan Kayiwa.

Vipers never looked threatening in the final third and evidently missed joint top scorer Fahad Bayo (8 goals) upfront. “We played against a good team and it not a surprise we lost. We are heading back to the drawing board and this result cannot affect our confidence,” conceded Edward Golola, the Venoms coach.

it was Mike Mutebi’s second win against Vipers in charge of KCCA in 9 games while Maliyamungu kept his first premier league clean after starting three consecutive league games for the first time in the absence of skipper Charles Lukwago who is with the national team.

Vipers remained on top of the table with 33 points after 14 games, 11 points above 5th placed KCCA that have played four games less. Vipers’ last first round fixture sees them visit Maroons while KCCA have URA, SC Villa, Mbarara, Proline and Kyetume before the break.
