The 2021 local basketball season will tip today, Saturday April 17 marking the return of the National Basketball League (NBL) and lower leagues (Division One and Two).
After missing out on the league action in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, all is set to have the games back.
The NBL opening day games will be played at the Kampala International University (KIU) basketball court in Kansaga while the lower league games will be played at Makerere University Main Ground and Nakasero Primary School.
In the NBL, the 2021 season will see 10 men’s and eight ladies teams take part in a one round format of play after Warriors Basketball Club, Sharing Youth Basketball Club, A1 Challenge Basketball Club and UMU Ravens opted out.
The top eight teams at the end of the regular season will take part in the playoffs until the finals to determine the 2021 champions in both categories.
The NBL games will be played on outdoor courts of KIU and UCU (Uganda Christian University) following the presidential directive while opening up sports activities
during the COVID-19 pandemic and all standard operating procedures will be strictly adhered to by all the participating stakeholders.
In addition, no fans will be allowed on game day at the venues and only the clubs (players and officials) playing at a particular time will be allowed to access the game day venue.
This season all games will be streamed live on the FUBA social media channels (Facebook, YouTube) and on FUBA website (fubalive.com) where the fans can catch the all-day action at their convenience.
