After a break for Stanbic Uganda Cup action, the Uganda Premier League (UPL) returns this Saturday with four crucial fixtures as Matchday 18 unfolds.
The spotlight will be on the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo, where second-placed NEC FC host Lugazi FC in a floodlit encounter.
NEC, last season’s Uganda Cup runners-up, are now focused on the league title race.
Head coach Hussein Mbalangu will demand a strong response from his squad after their recent Uganda Cup setback against Blacks Power.
A win for NEC will temporarily push them to the top of the table, overtaking Vipers SC by a single point—at least for 24 hours.
However, Lugazi FC, who edged NEC 1-0 in the reverse fixture, will be eager to complete a season double and solidify their mid-table position.
At the Royal Park-Butema, Kitara FC will take on third-placed URA FC. Kitara’s head coach Wasswa Bbosa will be aiming for revenge after suffering his first defeat in charge against URA earlier in the season.
URA sit on 27 points, just two ahead of Kitara, making this a crucial battle for a top-four position.
Elsewhere, relegation-threatened Mbale Heroes host Police FC at Mbale Municipal Stadium, while Soltilo Bright Stars, another side battling the drop, welcome BUL FC to Kavumba Recreation Ground.
